01 / NAME THE COLOR ROUTE
Colored glass, coating or full-wrap label?
These three routes can look similar in a photo, but they are not the same pack specification.
Surface coating
A color film is added outside the glass. It can be opaque, translucent, solid, gradient, matte or gloss.
Check: base glass, adhesion, rub, scratch, formula contact and packing contact.
Applied or full-wrap label
A separate paper or film layer covers part or most of the bottle. It can carry more colors and copy than a simple direct print.
Check: stock, adhesive, seam, bubbles, edge lift, moisture and scuffing.
Color note: a Pantone code is a communication reference, not a promise of the final appearance on clear, amber, frosted or coated glass. Approve the color on a physical bottle sample.

Direct printing may use different ink and curing systems. True frosting and a matte coating are different routes. The quote and approved sample should name the exact system.

What is the difference between colored glass and a color coating?
Body-colored glass has color in the glass. A coating is a separate layer on the outside. Ask the quote to name the route. If light protection matters, request data for the exact bottle and test it with your formula.
Is frosted glass the same as a matte coating?
No. True frosting changes the glass surface by etching or abrasion. A frost-effect coating adds a matte film. They can look similar, but their process, feel and durability checks are different.
Should I use direct printing or a label?
Direct printing gives a clean, no-label look and works well for simple artwork inside the print area. A label can carry more colors, small copy and changing information. Compare artwork, handling, formula exposure and the approved sample.
What artwork files should I send?
Send an editable vector file such as AI, EPS or PDF if available. Also send the bottle link or drawing, position, colors and reference images. We confirm the final file format and printable area for the quoted bottle.
How should a custom color be approved?
Give a color code and, when possible, a physical reference. Approve the color on the real bottle under agreed lighting. Keep a signed or recorded master sample and specification for future orders.
Which durability checks should be discussed?
Discuss adhesion, rub, scratch, formula contact, wet or cold handling, filling conditions, transport and pack-to-pack contact. Write the sample condition, method and pass rule for the project.
How can repeat-order color differences be controlled?
Use the same approved master sample, color reference, finish name, base bottle and specification revision. Agree how the color is compared and what tolerance applies. Recheck after material or process changes.
What are the MOQ, sample cost and lead time?
